Putin Says Slovak PM Ready To Offer 'Platform' For Possible Ukraine Talks(The Center Square) – Paula Scanlan is hopeful the narrative around gender ideology is shifting, especially as Republicans prepare for majorities in both chambers of the 119th Congress and a seat in the White House. “I am hopeful that with the majorities now that we will be able to get across the finish line,” Scanlan told The Center Square on Thursday, speaking of more legislation on the way to protect women's spaces. “Obviously, this goes beyond sports ... So ideally, I think that the biggest thing would be to federally pass something that says this is what a woman is.” Scanlan a day earlier was part of a panel where U.S. Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kan., announced that Republicans plan to soon introduce legislation to “protect children from transgender medical procedures.” A report from the advocacy group Do No Harm released four weeks before Election Day included documented evidence of such activity being performed on a 7-year-old . “We’ll be introducing the STOP Act soon,” said Marshall . “We are going to use the Commerce Act to punish people who perform any type of surgery, or who use any type of medications on minors.” STOP is an acronym for Safeguarding the Overall Protection of Minors. The panel said that the legislation is an important and necessary step to protect children. Scanlan and Marshall, a host with the American Principles Project, were on the panel alongside U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala.; U.S. Rep. Mary Miller, R-Ill.; Terry Schilling, president of the American Principles Project; and Sarah Parshall Perry, senior legal fellow at the Heritage Foundation. “We all know by now that so-called gender affirming care is anything but caring,” Tuberville said. “It is pure insanity and has caused irreversible damage to countless children. This isn’t about politics, this is about good and evil.” Scanlan is an ambassador for Independent Women's Voice and a former collegiate swimmer at the University of Pennsylvania. Swimming for the Quakers, she and teammates endured being not only on the same team but in the same locker room as a swimmer who for the first three years swam on the men's team. “I was a swimmer at the University of Pennsylvania and the administration, the university and the NCAA said , ‘Here's a man who wants to swim on your team, please accept him,’” she explained during the panel. “This entire situation really made all female athletes feel isolated and alone, and like they know where to go.” Scanlan said that it wasn’t just competing that isolated the female athletes. “Eighteen times per week, my teammates and I were forced to undress next to a 6-foot-4, fully-intact male,” Scanlan said. “As a female athlete, this was just something I couldn't even imagine. It was something I never imagined would happen to me when I went off to college.” The STOP Act is one of a few beginnings. U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., has proposed legislation seeking to protect women’s spaces on all federal property nationwide. This would include bathrooms, locker rooms and prisons. Scanlan said this shows that public opinion is on the side of her and the panel. “This is really the first time we're seeing more of these people in power stepping up and actually doing the right thing and saying enough is enough” she said. “Now, we are looking at entire teams that are feeling empowered to be able to boycott ... or object to competing against males. It's widespread.” A notable case of that is San Jose State, where Blaire Fleming's participation has led to seven opponents forfeiting rather than playing a women's team that includes a man saying he is a woman. Tuberville and Marshall emphasized they believe the majority of Americans would agree with the proposed legislation. "The American people are sick of this nonsense," Tuberville said . "It’s time we restore some sanity and get common sense back in this country." Scanlan said that while she supports the national legislation Republicans are considering, it is important for states to also continue to pass legislation. “I always remind people who are really excited about having a presidency that we don't know what might happen in four years," she said. "So, of course, it's also important to codify this in states. We are going to continue our efforts. There's still a lot of work to be done, and I don't really see it as a win until we've finished this on the state level.”winph99 com login philippines

Marin year in review: Top stories of 2024MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell's stirring locker room tribute to his team last week at Seattle was respectfully interrupted by seven-year veteran right tackle Brian O'Neill, who flipped the script on the game ball awards by tossing one to the boss in honor of his second 13-win season in three years. The Vikings have obliterated even the most optimistic of external predictions for this transitional season, taking a sparkling 13-2 record into their matchup against the Green Bay Packers that has made O'Connell the current favorite for the NFL Coach of the Year award. “It’s a credit to who he is as a person, as a coach and as a leader,” tight end T.J. Hockenson said. “We’re very fortunate to be able to play under him.” The Vikings can not only win the NFC North for a second time in three seasons, but get the No. 1 seed with a first-round bye and home-field advantage throughout the NFC tournament if they beat both the Packers at home on Sunday and the Detroit Lions on the road next week. Don't expect the Vikings to ponder that possibility, though, as tantalizing as it would be. “It can be a very tired cliché to talk about going 1-0 until you’ve systematically built your entire operation daily of just trying to do that every single day,” O'Connell said after Minnesota's eighth consecutive victory . “These guys, it’s not a cliché at that point. It becomes part of your football foundation and the makeup of your locker room, of your leadership, your coaching staff.” The Packers could be forgiven for being less than impressed by the impact O'Connell has made, for a reason beyond simply him coaching their biggest rival. Green Bay enjoyed even better out-of-the-gate success under coach Matt LaFleur, who was hired in 2019 and won 13 regular-season games in each of his first three years. Though they're in third place at 11-4, two games behind the Lions and the Vikings, the Packers too have secured a place in the playoffs even if they can't win their loaded division. They'll likely be the visiting team as long as they're alive this postseason. "I think that just all of us going against one another, it’s forced you to be at your best every week," LaFleur said. “You can’t afford a slip-up, just to keep up with everybody.” The road team has won each of the past three matchups in this series. The Packers are 0-4 against the teams with the top three records in the NFC: Detroit, Minnesota and Philadelphia. “We’ve got to be able to go win these games against the really good teams in the league and set ourselves up for the situation we’ll be in for the playoffs,” quarterback Jordan Love said. Aaron Jones rushed for 93 yards on 22 carries for Minnesota in a 31-29 victory at Green Bay on Sept. 29. Released by the Packers for salary cap relief in favor of their premier free agency addition, the three-plus-years-younger Josh Jacobs, Jones just hit the 1,000-yard mark last week and can't hide from the significance of facing his former team. "They respect you because they were on your team or they've seen the work that you put in, but you want to gain their respect in another way from playing against them, like, ‘Man, this dude is really as good as I thought he was,’" Jones said. Jacobs, for his part, is fourth in the NFL entering Week 17 with 1,216 rushing yards for the most by a Packers player in a season since Ryan Grant (1,253) in 2009. The earlier matchup this season featured seven combined turnovers, four by the Packers and three by the Vikings. Both of these teams are among the NFL's best in the turnover department, with Green Bay at a plus-12 margin and Minnesota at a plus-10. The Packers have allowed a total of three sacks and have committed just two turnovers over their past five games. The Vikings are eagerly anticipating the return of second-year linebacker Ivan Pace, the sparkplug who has missed four games on injured reserve with a hamstring strain. They’ll be cautious with him and the tricky nature of that injury, but getting Pace back in the middle of the action with fellow linebacker Blake Cashman would be a big boost to the play-calling options for defensive coordinator Brian Flores. “He flies around. When he blitzes, he’s as impactful as anybody, and when you can really get him and Cash out there at the same time, they both can really play to their strengths,” O’Connell said. “They’re both really good blitzers. Cash is phenomenal in coverage and reading the quarterback, and when you can kind of pair those guys together, run and pass, that’s when we’re at our best.” Brayden Narveson missed both of his field-goal attempts for Green Bay, from 37 and 49 yards, in the two-point decision at Lambeau Field in Week 4. The Packers released Narveson a couple of weeks later in favor of 11-year veteran Brandon McManus, who has gone 16 of 17 on field-goal tries including game-winners as time expired against Houston and Jacksonville. Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch has accused Nigel Farage of “fakery” over Reform UK membership numbers, after his party claimed they had surpassed the Tories in signed-up members. Mrs Badenoch said Reform’s counter was “coded to tick up automatically”, but Mr Farage said he would “gladly invite” a firm to “audit our membership numbers” as long as the Conservatives do the same. The row comes after a digital counter on the Reform website showed a membership tally before lunchtime on Boxing Day ticking past the 131,680 figure declared by the Conservative Party during its leadership election earlier this year. Manipulating your own supporters at Xmas eh, Nigel? It’s not real. It’s a fake ⏰ coded to tick up automatically. We’ve been watching the back end for days and can also see they’ve just changed the code to link to a different site as people point this out. Farage doesn’t... https://t.co/2tAsszfHsG — Kemi Badenoch (@KemiBadenoch) December 26, 2024 When the figure was announced, Mr Farage said it was an “historic moment”. However in a thread on X later on Thursday, Mrs Badenoch said it was “a fake” and used a clock emoji to say that it was “coded to tick up automatically”. She added that “we’ve been watching the back end” of the counter “for days” Mrs Badenoch added: “Farage doesn’t understand the digital age. This kind of fakery gets found out pretty quickly, although not before many are fooled.” There were 131,680 Conservative members eligible to vote during the party’s leadership election to replace Rishi Sunak in the autumn, but Mrs Badenoch claimed in her thread that “the Conservative Party has gained thousands of new members since the leadership election”. In response to the thread, Mr Farage said that the “Conservative brand is dying” under Mrs Badenoch’s leadership, and added: “We will gladly invite one of the Big 4 firms in to audit our membership numbers as long as you do the same.” The official Reform X account also posted an image that it said included a “screenshot of our internal membership numbers”, which appeared to show figures at more than 134,000. Hi Kemi, this is very embarrassing for you. Here is a screenshot of our internal membership numbers. Whether you like it or not, we have more members. We are the real opposition. https://t.co/mS8VbkAi8N pic.twitter.com/Rb47zrsZ04 — Reform UK (@reformparty_uk) December 26, 2024 In a post on X on Thursday evening, Mr Farage said that “over 5,000 people have joined Reform today”. A research briefing published by the House of Commons Library in 2022 said comparing party membership numbers can be “difficult”, saying there is not a uniformly recognised definition of membership, or an established method to monitor it. Over 5,000 people have joined Reform today, another record day. Click the link below to join the fastest growing movement in British politics. https://t.co/5g6BAtEkUb — Nigel Farage MP (@Nigel_Farage) December 26, 2024 Luke Tryl, director of the More in Common think tank, similarly told the PA news agency it is an “opaque” process. Speaking before Mrs Badenoch made her accusations, Mr Tryl said: “Parties are notoriously opaque about this sort of thing”. He described party membership as “very opaque and murky as a metric anyway”. On Reform, Mr Tryl said one of the challenges for the party will be whether membership converts to campaigners. He told PA: “There is no doubt Reform had a very good autumn. I think they capitalised off some of Labour’s early mistakes, but also the fact the Conservative brand is still struggling. They’ve clearly got momentum.” Discussing Reform’s membership, he said: “We know that lots of Reform’s most vocal supporters are very online. “Do those people who are very online and joined up, do they also go out and pound the streets, deliver leaflets, canvass, that sort of thing? “That remains an open question.” Reform was set up as a limited company and in September Mr Farage announced that he would change the ownership structure so that it would be owned by members. “I no longer need to control this party,” he said at the time. In a video posted on X, he said: “We will change the structure of the party from one limited by shares to a company limited by guarantee, and that means it’s the members of Reform that will own this party.”His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik concluded his state visit to the Republic of Turkiye on Friday. Premier David Eby promises to press the 'reset' button with B.C. businessAhead of the first Test, renowned Australian cricket writer Gideon Haigh had suggested that Perth could be the most alien of conditions for India. He argued that Perth would test India thoroughly and hinted that Australia had planned the series in a manner that they could be 2-0 up by the time series moved to Brisbane. With the 0-3 whitewash against New Zealand looming large in the background, the pressure was clearly on India. However, India’s 295-run win in Perth has put the pressure squarely on Australia. There is talk of divisions in the Australian dressing room. Former players are asking the tough questions and Pat Cummins and his team aren’t in the best space. “India were brilliant in Perth. (Jasprit) Bumrah showed Australia how to bowl in Australian conditions. And now the question is, can Australia comeback from this?” asked former skipper Michael Clarke. His remarks highlight the ineffectiveness of the Australian fast bowling trio -- Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood. And the upcoming pink ball Test in Adelaide could well be the last roll of the dice for each one of them against the Indians. Now, with Hazlewood ruled out and Boland likely to replace him, the spotlight will squarely be on Cummins and Starc. In recent times, Australia have beaten India in the 50-over World Cup final and also in the World Test Championship (WTC) final. However, for over a decade, Australia haven’t won a bilateral Test series against India, either at home or away. In cricket, bilateral Test series, especially away from home, are considered the ultimate challenge. And that’s what the Australians haven’t been able to do. Despite boasting over 1,400 Test wickets collectively, Starc, Cummins, Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon have repeatedly failed against India’s grit and resilience. That makes Adelaide important. Australia have played far too many pink ball Tests than India and know the conditions better than their guests. Ten days of practice, including a two-day game, is hardly sufficient preparation, giving Australia a clear advantage. After the Perth century-makers Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal, and returning Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma, Indian batting line-up doesn’t look as fragile, nor their bowling as inexperienced. Ultimately, it could well boil down to who handles the pressure better in Adelaide. “Cricket is the most individual of all team sports and it only becomes a team game when individuals come together as a collective. When a batter bats out there he is all alone. It is him versus the red cherry. No one else is there to help him in the 22 yards strip. Only when each one comes together does it become a team,” said former India batter Mohinder Amarnath, at the occasion of his book launch in Delhi. That’s what Australia needs at the moment – a collective effort. They don’t have a Bumrah. But they have Starc and Cummins, two of the best bowlers in the world. They need to collectively believe they can do the job for Australia and turn the tide. Steve Smith needs to believe he can score big like he has in the past and Marnus Labuschagne needs to be Marnus and not try to be Cheteshwar Pujara. Only if the Australians come together as a collective do they have a chance in Adelaide. Adelaide could well be Australia’s last chance in this series -- make or break ahead of Brisbane. With the Indians winning in Perth, all the thinking is now for Australia to do. Can they square the series or will the Indians take a 2-0 lead to be on the verge of a third consecutive series win down under? Bengaluru: Sexually assaulted boys turning hostile during trial is posing a major challenge in securing convictions in Karnataka, according to prosecutors, investigators and activists involved in counselling sexual abuse survivors. State police data accessed by TOI reveals that for every conviction in Pocso cases where the survivors are boys, there have been more than two acquittals over the past four years. From 2021 till Oct 31, 2024, there were 114 cases registered for sexual assault of boys under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Of them, only seven have ended in convictions, as against 18 acquittals. The remaining cases are still under trial. While 24 cases of sexual harassment against minor boys were registered in 2021, the number rose to 25 in 2022 and 33 in 2023. The first 10 months of this year saw 32 cases. On the poor conviction rate, ADGP (law and order) R Hitendra told TOI: "The survivor, who would be a minor during the incident, could have turned an adult during the trial. He could turn hostile owing to reasons like social stigma. Such incidents psychologically damage survivors." While not ruling out the tendency of families keeping cases of sexual assault of boys under wraps, Hitendra said, "In most cases of sexual harassment of boys, complaints are lodged only in case of serious injury or damage. Such boys are emotionally affected and many turn hostile as they become adults during trial." Stanley KV, co-founder of the Mysuru-based Odanadi, an NGO involved in rehabilitating survivors of sexual assaults and trafficking, said as boys grow into adults, they are imbued with "male pride" and aren't ready to accept being subjected to sexual assault. "Male pride doesn't permit male survivors to accept in courts that they were sexually assaulted, and this is why many turn hostile. They need proper counselling. Psychosocial and sexual counselling will help them overcome such embarrassment and stand firm during trial," he said. The state police numbers, though, are at variance with those collated by Odanadi, which revealed 334 cases of sexual harassment of minor boys were registered in the state during 2021-24. According to Stanley, the NGO got its data from the women and child welfare department through an RTI application. Asked about the differences in data, Hitendra merely said the data provided by state police is based on FIRs registered. BOX SOME RECENT CASES April 2021: Two men, including a truck driver, were arrested on charges of sexually harassing a minor boy in Gauribidanur, Chikkaballapur district. According to the boy, he was playing near the house of one of the accused when they gave him Rs 50 and asked him to bring two cigarettes. When the boy returned with the cigarettes, they sexually assaulted him. Later, his parents filed a complaint against the accused — G Ashok and N Lokesh. Investigating officers from Gauribidanur Rural police station filed a watertight chargesheet against the accused. In Feb 2022, a fast-track Pocso court found them guilty and sentenced them to rigorous imprisonment of 20 years each. Dec 2022: A youth and his mother were booked under Pocso Act for allegedly sexually harassing a 10-year-old Kerala-based boy in Nandi Hills. According to the survivor's mother, she, her son, the accused youth, and his mother had visited Nandi Hills when the youth inappropriately touched the 10-year-old. The act was allegedly noticed by the youth's mother, but she kept silent, said the survivor's mother in her complaint. The complaint was filed in Kerala and the case transferred to Nandi Hills police station a few months ago. The accused were arrested and the case is under investigation. Jan 2024: The parents of a 16-year-old student filed a complaint in Gauribidanur taluk against his teacher (a woman) for allegedly sexually harassing him during a study tour. An obscene picture of the student and the accused teacher, taken by the latter, went viral on social media. The incident badly affected the survivor's academic performance. The case is under trial now.AAP FACTCHECK – Fake news headlines about celebrity and company boycotts of states Donald Trump won in the US election are being shared on social media as if they’re authentic. The headlines, however, can be traced back to articles published by self-described satire websites SpaceXMania and Esspots. Facebook posts claim US pop superstar Taylor Swift, who endorsed the president-elect’s opponent Vice President Kamala Harris, is boycotting “red states”. Other posts claim fellow pop superstar Beyonce Knowles is also snubbing states that weren’t won by her preferred candidate, Harris. However, the headline about Swift and the one about Knowles were initially published on self-described “satire” websites. AAP FactCheck previously reported that Pakistani content creator Muhammad Shabayer Shaukat ran both websites. Mr Shaukat said at the time his articles – most of which are generated by artificial intelligence (AI) – were deliberately celebrity- and politics-focused in order to drive user engagement and generate ad revenue using a network of social media pages he also operated. Stories published on his websites and Facebook pages are labelled “SATIRE”. Neither Swift nor Knowles have publicly announced any boycott of states based on which presidential candidate won them in the election. Knowles isn’t currently touring, and Swift only has dates in Canada remaining on her Eras tour . The final US performance of the tour was in Indianapolis on November 3, two days before the election.
