Religare's annual general meeting to get the shareholders' nod for three resolutions including the reappointment of chairperson Rashmi Saluja was scheduled for December 31. The order dated December 18 said, "Till further orders, the notice dated 09.12.2024 and the Annual General Body Meeting of Respondent No. 7 (REL), which is scheduled to be held on 31.12.2024, shall remain stayed." The petition by the investor alleged that if the AGM took place as scheduled, it would enable the acquirers (the Burmans) to exploit their dominant shareholding and change Religare's management. Last week, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) approved the Burman family's proposed open offer to acquire an additional 26% stake in Religare. Earlier this month, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) also gave its approval to the offer by the promoter family of Dabur . "It is verily believed they would ensure that a more pliant management is put in place which would not interfere with their open offer since much opposition has been made by the present management, who have, inter alia, raised issues of undervaluation of the offer price," said the writ petition. Proxy advisory firm InGovern Research Services, which advised shareholders of Religare to vote against the reappointment of Saluja as a director, termed the court order "bizarre". "It's bizarre that the HC is intervening in an issue based on an RBI order, given RBI is an independent regulator," said Shriram Subramanian, founder and MD of InGovern Research. "The decision to block the AGM is illogical, as it makes the company non-compliant with the Companies Act." In August, Religare deferred its AGM from September to December. Following this, the Burman family filed a petition with the Delhi High Court against the Registrar of Companies (RoC) and Religare for delaying the AGM. The Religare management led by Saluja has been opposed to the open offer by Burmans, owner of consumer firm Dabur, citing concerns over a low offer price and "fit and proper" allegations. The open offer, announced at ₹235 per share, amounts to ₹2,116 crore in all for the additional stake. If successful, it would raise the Burman family's total stake in the New Delhi-based NBFC to well above 50%, effectively granting it majority control. Candace Cameron Bure is looking forward to shooting “another four to five movies” with Great American Family in 2025, but her road to happiness with the network hasn’t been easy. “It certainly is difficult when talking to media outlets,” Cameron Bure, 48, confessed to The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published on Wednesday, December 25. “While we are grateful for media outlets that point people to our channels, there’s still always a risk because the answers can be written out of context .” The actress noted that her past comments about Great American Family — which is a channel under the Great American Media banner — focusing on “traditional marriage” as opposed to Hallmark Channel’s more inclusive story lines (including same sex couples, etc.) was a bump in the road. “That certainly happened to me when moving over to Great American Family, and it was a really hard time,” Cameron Bure recalled. “And to be misunderstood in that way was difficult.” The Full House alum made headlines in April 2022 when she announced that she was leaving Hallmark Media after 13 years to work exclusively with Great American Media. The move reunited Cameron Bure with Hallmark’s former CEO, Bill Abbott , who raised eyebrows before his own departure from the network when he removed an ad featuring a same-sex couple from the channel. In November 2022, Cameron Bure explained her reason for switching networks after previously being the face of Hallmark’s holiday coverage and being dubbed the “Queen of Christmas.” She told The Wall Street Journal ’s WSJ. Magazine at the time, “My heart wants to tell stories that have more meaning and purpose and depth behind them.” She claimed that Hallmark was a “completely different network than when I started” and she was excited to work with Great American Family due to its desire to “promote faith programming and good family entertainment.” Cameron Bure added, “I think that Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core.” The comment caused outrage among fans and celebrities alike with some people calling Cameron Bure a “ bigot .” Cameron Bure — who has now produced several movies for Great American Family under her Candy Rock Entertainment production company banner — shared a message of sadness at the time over the backlash she received. “All of you who know me, know beyond question that I have great love and affection for all people,” she began in a lengthy statement shared via Instagram in November 2022. “It absolutely breaks my heart that anyone would ever think I intentionally would want to offend and hurt anyone. It saddens me that the media is often seeking to divide us, even around a subject as comforting and merry as Christmas movies. But, given the toxic climate in our culture right now, I shouldn’t be surprised. We need Christmas more than ever.” She noted that she is a “devoted Christian” who said she is “called to love all people.” Cameron Bure concluded: “To everyone reading this, of any race, creed, sexuality, or political party, including those who have tried to bully me with name-calling, I love you.” Two years later, Cameron Bure said that Great American Family is still trying to get their footing in the media realm and working toward its faith-focused content. “We are a relatively new channel. This is only our fourth year in Christmas,” she told THR . “Like any new business, you have your core demographic and what you’re looking for, and you’re going to produce the product that will best suit that audience.” The Fuller House alum continued: “Most networks are not trying to be all things to all people. What really differentiates our channel from some of the other ones out there is that we’re not afraid to talk about God and God’s hand in our lives instead of fate or providence.” Cameron Bure pointed out that Great American Family leans into “faith in our movies” that align with their tagline for the channel which is: “ Christmas as it’s meant to be .” You have successfully subscribed. God loves all of us, and so that’s the spirit in which I make everything,” she concluded.

Let’s be honest for a second: Sure, President-elect Donald Trump ’s decision to nominate his daughter Ivanka’s father-in-law, Charles Kushner, to be ambassador to France has raised eyebrows . But that decision almost certainly won’t have any notable impact on your life. Welcome to the presidential inauguration waiting game: Gaming out what Trump will actually do when he takes office, how his choices for top White House and Cabinet jobs will translate into policy and how much and how quickly all of this will affect you, if at all. Most of this is educated guesswork, based on things like Trump’s recent public utterances and his first-term record. It hinges on dynamics like the prospects of Senate confirmations and, if a given candidate is rebuffed, how far the incoming president will go to install them (hint: Get used to the title “acting.”) We take the position that there are no unimportant presidential decisions or nominations. But Trump nominating Rep. Elise Stefanik as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, while setting the stage for a confrontational relationship with that organization, is unlikely to mean much to your daily life. Not only are these two policy areas that Trump obviously cares about, they also don’t require congressional action. The president has wide latitude to raise tariffs and launch the vastest deportation plan in American history – both of which he has labeled Day One priorities . So when he says, as he did recently, that he plans to impose a 25% tariff on all goods from Canada and Mexico, people sit up and take notice. (His stated aim was to coerce greater cooperation from them on blocking immigration and fentanyl flows into the United States.) Economists broadly agree that consumers bear the brunt of the financial burden tied to tariffs. The duties are not paid by the country being targeted but by the importer, which regularly passes along those costs. You’d feel the pinch at the gas pump and the grocery store . But will he do it? Trump had a phone call with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and hosted Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at Mar-a-Lago. After the former, Trump declared victory on immigration across the southern border, but Sheinbaum pointedly noted that the president had extracted no new concessions . Trump and Trudeau both described their talks as “productive” but did not provide details. Does this signal Trumpian resolve to use tariffs? Or did this serve as a steam-valve of sorts that makes them less likely? We had previously noted that the incoming president would claim credit for existing policies, and that appears to be what has happened. Trump’s mass deportation plan (the details are sketchy) would also almost certainly have immediate economic and social impacts – and could put blue localities and the red federal government on an unprecedented collision course. Many American economic sectors depend on immigrants in the country legally and illegally – think agriculture , building maintenance and groundskeeping, construction and food prep. The five states with the largest populations are California, Texas, Florida, New York and New Jersey. Even if Trump prioritizes deporting gang members and criminals at first, the prospects for a mass roundup are sure to have an effect on the millions of non-violent immigrants here illegally – not to mention those here legally who are afraid of being caught up in such an unprecedented dragnet. And what about “mixed” households that include both people here illegally and people here legally (including children with U.S. citizenship)? Trump’s pick to lead the FBI, Kash Patel, is a MAGA diehard who has promised to target domestic political critics of the president-elect and go after journalists. This has enormous ramifications for rule of law and democracy in America. ( There’s scant evidence for Trump’s claim that President Joe Biden used the Justice Department to pursue him.) The president-elect’s vow to fire “woke generals” ( something he can absolutely do , by the way) could have repercussions for military recruitment. Trump’s policies towards Ukraine and Russia, towards Israel and the Middle East as a whole, towards climate, towards public health ? Very important for the future of the country and the planet. Improbable plans to slash federal spending (his advisers have endorsed $2 trillion cuts that are larger than annual discretionary spending )? I would bet that pushing out federal workers and rolling back (or simply refusing to enforce) regulations are more likely, and that could affect millions of Americans (and U.S. businesses) in the near term. But in each case, questions abound: How many Americans will tune these in? Will they see an impact on their daily lives? How will that shape their response? This is not to minimize any aspect of this. It’s to highlight the relationship between policy and politics.‘Doesn’t come across great’ – talkSPORT pundits clash as Jude Bellingham reveals the truth about Euro 2024 media scrutiny
and appealed to the Australian Government on Tuesday through written submissions to delay a bill imposing a social media ban for children under 16 years old. In their submissions, both Google and Meta contended the bill should be delayed until the Government’s Age Assurance Trial results are obtained. The would “include methods that verify a user’s identity credentials to accurately determine their age” using “biometric markers or digital usage patterns.” Meta’s outlined several key points, including asserting the bill will “needlessly burden parents and young people” and “disempower Australian parents,” expressing doubts regarding the government’s proposition to place the burden on social media companies. Further, the submission considers the “omission of YouTube and online gaming fatal to the Bill’s purpose.” However, the government has to exclude messaging apps, gaming services, and health and education-related such as Google Classroom and YouTube. Meta’s submission additionally voices reservations about the new definition of ‘age-restricted social media platform,’ the “unclear technical requirements with significant penalties.” It raises concerns of “overlap and duplication” with the Privacy Act. Google’s proposed the bill “adopt a more targeted approach to covered services,” noting “digital platform regulation is complex and requires careful regulation,” expressing concerns that the speed of the bill’s development has “not allowed for adequate contemplation of the complexities,” and the “rushed approach” has “failed to allow adequate consultation with experts, industry, parents and caregivers and young people themselves,” suggesting it “does not reflect good regulatory practice.” Australia’s Labor government the on November 21, 2024, which sought to implement a minimum age of 16 for social media. The bill was referred to the Environment and Communications Legislation Committee, with submissions of opinions closing after one day. An amendment to the , the bill would place responsibility on social media companies, rather than parents or children, to ensure reasonable steps are taken to prevent children under 16 from the platforms. The broadened definition of ‘age-restricted social media platform’ noted in would include Facebook and Instagram owned by Meta Platforms, TikTok, Snapchat, Reddit, and X (formerly Twitter). Significant penalties could be imposed upon digital platforms for systemic breaches, such as failing to adhere to the minimum age obligation and incurring fines of up to AUD $49.5 million. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese the legislation as a “landmark reform,” acknowledging, “We know some kids will find workarounds, but we’re sending a message to social media companies to clean up their act.” Several organizations and individuals have expressed uncertainty and opposition to the bill, including , , , , and . KYIV (AP) – At football games in Ukraine, crowd sizes are determined by the capacity of the nearest bomb shelter. For the first time since the war began in 2022, the Ukrainian Premier League is holding a full season with fans present, as martial-law bans on public gatherings have been eased. Despite the constant threat of airstrikes, Dynamo Kyiv supporters eagerly snap up the 1,700 tickets available for each home game at the 16,000-seat Valeriy Lobanovskyi Stadium. Many fans are keen to experience a rare moment of calm, free from the country’s traditionally intense sporting rivalries. While the war forced Dynamo to relocate its home matches in the Europa League to Hamburg, Germany, it uses its home stadium in Kyiv for domestic league matches. Vitalii Kozubra brought his nine-year-old son Makar to watch Dynamo, a title contender, face mid-table Zorya Luhansk. “Even though there’s a war going on, this is something people can enjoy together,” Kozubra said, noting the friendly atmosphere at the stadium, where Zorya fans mingled with locals. Makar marveled at the difference between watching a game in person and on television. As the players took the field, all 22 of them draped in Ukrainian yellow-and-blue flags, the crowd, which included servicemen and families with children, erupted in applause. The stadium was alive with the sound of players’ exertion and the thud of the ball. Children rushed to the touchline for autographs, drawn by the few foreign players from Brazil, Senegal, Ivory Coast and Panama who have chosen to remain despite the war. Zorya wasn’t booed once. PHOTO: AP SIRENS AND SHELTERS Ukraine’s 16-team top-flight league has managed to continue, despite increasing challenges. Matches are scheduled for early afternoon due to frequent power outages and the logistical challenges of travelling across Europe’s second-largest country during war. When air raid sirens interrupt play – sometimes for hours – players and fans alike head to shelters as alarms blare from loudspeakers and thousands of mobile phones. “This season, we’ve been lucky in Kyiv, with no air alarms during our home games,” said Dynamo club spokesman Andrii Shakhov. “But it’s a different story for away games... The longest one we had lasted four hours because of four air alarms.” Ukrainian football players are subject to the draft at age 25 but clubs can apply for exemptions under business protection rules. Two teams currently play permanently outside their home field due to the war, amid broader disruption, while two others withdrew after fighting started due to stadium damage. The country’s football tradition dates back to its Soviet past, when it was a football powerhouse, producing top-tier players and coaches. In the 1980s, fan movements often became expressions of Ukrainian identity. After 1991, football continued to be a source of national pride through years of political and financial turmoil. Ukraine reached the quarterfinals of the 2006 World Cup and co-hosted the 2012 European Championships. At home, supporters’ groups have set aside violent rivalries for more than a decade, ever since they united to back protesters during the deadly 2013-14 uprisings. “Dexter,” a red-bearded Dynamo supporter and civilian contractor for the military, explained why the truce among rival fan groups still holds. “It became necessary because we needed to unite against a common enemy. These internal conflicts lost their relevance when people from rival fan groups ended up fighting together in the same military units,” he said, while walking his dog along the banks of the Dnipro River. RIVALRIES SET ASIDE He added that fan organisations are involved in nearly every aspect of the war effort, from active combat duty to fundraising, veteran support, and providing technical skills like computer programming to the military. FOOTBALL FANS AT THE FRONT Eight hours east of Kyiv, in the Kharkiv region, servicemen from the 3rd Assault Brigade played a match on a field near bombed-out buildings. Many of these fighters had been recruited through football-related channels and acquaintances. “Organised fans play a huge role in this war because they’re highly motivated,” said a serviceman with the call sign “Shtahet”, a Dynamo supporter currently on deployment. Combat medic “Poltava” noted that football remains a vital morale booster. “We get together whenever we can and rent spaces to play,” he said. “There’s not much entertainment here, so football is our only joy.”
LONDON — A woman who claimed mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor “brutally raped and battered” her in a Dublin hotel penthouse was awarded nearly 250,000 Euros ($257,000) on Friday by a civil court jury in Ireland. The woman said the Dec. 9, 2018, assault after a night of partying left her heavily bruised and suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. McGregor shook his head as the jury of eight women and four men returned the verdict after deliberating for about six hours in the High Court in Dublin. He was mobbed by cameras as he left court but did not comment. The former UFC champion later posted on his X social media account that he planned to appeal the decision . McGregor testified that he never forced the woman to do anything against her will and said she fabricated the allegations after the two had consensual sex. The woman’s voice and hands trembled as she read a statement outside the courthouse, saying she would never forget what happened to her but would now be able to move on with her life. She thanked her family, partner, friends and all the supporters that had reached out to her online, but particularly her daughter. “She has given me so much strength and courage over the last six years throughout this nightmare to keep on pushing forward for justice,” the woman said. “I want to show (her) and every other girl and boy that you can stand up for yourself if something happens to you, no matter who the person is, and justice will be served.” Her lawyer told jurors that McGregor was angry about a fight he had lost in Las Vegas two months earlier and took it out on his client. “He’s not a man, he’s a coward,” attorney John Gordon said in his closing speech. “A devious coward and you should treat him for what he is.” The woman had to take several breaks in her emotional testimony as she said McGregor threatened to kill her during the encounter. A paramedic who examined the woman the next day, testified that she hadn’t seen someone with that intensity of bruising. The woman said McGregor put her in a chokehold several times and later told her, “Now you know how I felt in the Octagon where I tapped out three times,” referring to an Oct. 6 fight at UFC 229 in Las Vegas when he lost via submission to lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov , followed by a wild post-fight brawl . She feared she would die and never see her daughter again. “He let me go and I remember saying I was sorry, as I felt that I did something wrong and I wanted to reassure him that I wouldn’t tell anyone so he wouldn’t hurt me again,” she said. She said she then let him do what he wanted and he had sex with her. Police investigated the woman’s complaint, but prosecutors declined to bring charges, saying there was insufficient evidence and a conviction was unlikely. McGregor said the two had sex that was athletic and vigorous, but not rough. He said “she never said ‘no’ or stopped” and testified that everything she said was a lie. “It is a full-blown lie among many lies,” he said when asked about the chokehold allegation. “How anyone could believe that me, as a prideful person, would highlight my shortcomings.” McGregor’s lawyer told jurors they had to set aside their animus toward the fighter. Related Articles “You may have an active dislike of him, some of you may even loathe him – there is no point pretending that the situation might be otherwise,” attorney Remy Farrell said. “I’m not asking you to invite him to Sunday brunch.” The defense said the woman never told investigators McGregor threatened her life. They also showed surveillance video in court that they said appeared to show the woman kiss McGregor’s arm and hug him after they left the hotel room. Farrell said she looked “happy, happy, happy.” McGregor said that when he was first questioned by police, he read them a prepared statement. On the advice of his lawyer, he refused to answer more than 100 follow-up questions.Seahawks place running back Kenneth Walker III on injured reserve

Trump has promised again to release the last JFK files. But experts say don’t expect big revelationsFianna Fáil has edged ahead in the last opinion poll before Friday’s general election. Fianna Fáil is unchanged at 21pc, while the trend of Fine Gael support falling has continued in the latest Business Post/Red C poll , which shows the party at 20pc, down 2pc. Fine Gael support is the lowest since Simon Harris took over as leader last March. Sinn Féin is also up by 2pc and ranks at 20pc. Fine Gael has now had a series of bad polls, with last weekend’s Sunday Independent/Ireland Thinks poll showing the party drop by 4pc and the Irish Times/Ipsos MRBI poll showing it is down by 6pc. While tonight’s Business Post poll does not show as a dramatic drop, it shows a continued trend in a drop of public support for Fine Gael ahead of the general election on Friday. The Fine Gael campaign has been dogged by controversies, starting with Ryanair’s Michael O’Leary making controversial remarks about teachers, Mr Harris’s interaction with a disability worker in Cork, as well as poor performances in leaders’ debates. Fine Gael has also faced questions over its handling of Independent general election candidate Cllr Patsy O’Brien, who was expelled from the party after sending pornographic material to a party staffer. Some 14pc of respondents said they would give Independents their first-preference vote, while 6pc said they would give their No.1 to the Social Democrats. Labour, the Greens, Aontú and Independent Ireland all rank at 4pc. People Before Profit-Solidarity come in at 2pc. Some 21pc of respondents to the latest poll said they will give their second preferences to Fianna Fáil, while 17pc said Fine Gael and 13pc said Sinn Féin.
